Honor Dog Program

Paws is very excited to introduce the Honor Dog Program! Riverton has a Honor Farm located just outside of town. For many years we have tossed around the idea of a cell dog program which has been implemented in many prisons around the country. These programs have had great success and we knew our animals could benefit from this kind of program. The Honor Dog Program is where carefully selected inmates are chosen to care for and train a shelter dog for a 8 week period under the direction of a trained professional. We send four dogs into the program at a time where they learn basic commands like sit, lay down, stay, come and heel. They are also leash trained and crate trained. The dogs are exercised daily and get to enjoy learning how to run through an agility course. By the end of the 8 week course all the dogs are potty trained and have completed the novice AKC Obedience and Good Citizenship Training.

If you are interested in adopting one of our Honor Dogs please contact the shelter manager at or 307-857-6002.

Dogs Currently in the Honor Dog Program or recent graduates

We also have Honor Dog Sponsorships available! This means you can sponsor one of the dogs going into the program and help pay for their food, crate, leash, collar, dishes and treats! An Honor Dog Sponsorship costs $200. If you are interested in doing this please contact Gina at
